Dawlish Community College is absolutely delighted that their recent Ofsted inspection has rightly recognised the fantastic improvements made over the last few years which have resulted in the College now being amongst the highest performing schools in Devon.
The College received a full inspection by four Inspectors with less than twenty four hours’ notice on the 16th and 17th October 2012. The framework that the school was graded against is regarded as the toughest inspection regime schools have ever been judged by.
The Inspectors graded the College as being GOOD overall.
There are four areas which are examined by the Inspectors and a grade is given for each of these areas. We were graded as GOOD for Behaviour and Safety of Pupils, GOOD for Quality of Teaching, GOOD for Achievement and OUTSTANDING for Leadership and Management.
Andrew Davis, Principal of Dawlish Community College commented, “This is a fantastic achievement for the College and reflects a huge amount of effort from students, staff and parents/carers in making sure we provide the very best educational experience for the children in our care.”
He went on to say that, “I am pleased the Inspection team recognised the superb results that have been achieved over the past few years and which now place the College amongst the best schools in Devon”
He added that the “The Inspection team identified many, many areas of strength at the College and this report is full of praise for the work the College is doing.”
Examples from the report, which is available on the school website, include:
“Students do well at this college.”
“Strong improvements in standards have been achieved by the vision, drive and resolve of the Principal and excellent leadership at all levels.”
“Over the last four years the results for Year 11 students have improved significantly year on year, particularly in GCSE English and Mathematics.”
“Students are very positive about the college, attend regularly and say they feel very safe. Behaviour is good and students work well together.”
“The secret of the College’s success is a relentless focus on improving standards, teaching and the subjects and courses available to students.”
The Principal also stated, “The College remains absolutely committed to continuing to be passionate, determined and focused on making sure that every one of our students achieves the very best that they can at our College. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and carers for their on-going support of both the College and their children, which enables our fantastically skilled and dedicated teachers to provide a brilliant educational experience”.
