Registered Charity - The Parish Lands - Registered Number 212497
The origins of the Feoffees go back to 1629 when Margaret Taverner’s will left some of the income from her property in Church Stile for the poor of the Parish of Exminster. In 1702 Robert Stone “and two others” enfeoffed some properties and land and the Parish Lands Charity was created. The Charitable Trusts Act of 1894 formalised the Charity which we now know as the Exminster Feoffees, for the benefit of poor and needy residents of Exminster.
All of the properties and most of the land were sold long ago. The proceeds were invested and these days the annual income from investments and land rents amounts to around £1,200.
The Feoffees are: the Vicar and 2 Parish Churchwardens, 3 people nominated by the Parish Council and co-opted members who reside or carry on business in Exminster.
We manage the investments and income and make cash grants in appropriate circumstances, particularly to help people through situations where money is not available from other sources. Our work is overseen by the Charity Commissioners and grants are made on a confidential basis to people who live within the Parish of Exminster.
If you think someone might benefit from our help, get in touch with us.
The present Feoffees are:
Mrs Rosemary Sanders (Chair)
Mr Chris Hodgson (Vice-Chair and Treasurer)
Mr Ray Adams (Secretary)
Rev John Williams
Mrs Barbara Edmund
Mrs Gladys Gush
Mrs Carole Smith
