March self build up date

Blogs - MyBlog

The exterior of the house has now been completed, apart from a couple of areas.  The larch boarding above the garage door can't be done until we have put a door in, and the window company have a couple of small jobs to do, but basically the house is looking like a house at last.  The scaffolding was supposed to have been removed last week, but when we checked tonight, it is still there.  Getting that removed will feel good, the house will finally be able to shine, instead of hiding behind the steel poles.

Kitchen and bathrooms are now ordered from B&Q.  They are not quite what I wanted, but as always compromises have to be made in order to complete, and at least we will have the essentials in the house before we move in.  Mind you, we still don't have a water supply, so that will have to be sorted soon, or we will have toilets, but not be able to use them!  We do have electricity now though.  We ended up having a new pole put into the front garden, and are the proud owners of the straightest pole in the street.

Internally, we have been forced to put a hold on ordering the first fix to start.  We are awaiting the bank's surveyor to visit and put a value on the house in order to get the next draw down of funds.  The bank seems to have less of a sense of urgency than us, and just reassure us it will happen soon, but we are reluctant to order trades and goods until that point, so are waiting for the surveyor to arrive.  Once that has happened, we can order the staircase.    As confident as I have become at climbing scaffolding, it will be nice to use stairs like everyone else does.  Plus once the scaffolding has gone, it will mean climbing a very wobbly ladder, which is not my idea of fun.
